Memorial Glass

These pendants were created as a memorial for a friend who lost someone special to breast cancer. I received a portion of “A”‘s ashes and captured them within the glass in a series of pendants and palmstones for her family and friends. The project itself was really special, creating a piece of glasswork that I knew someone would be treasuring for the rest of their life. Working with the ashes is quite surreal; as they are heated carbon dioxide and oxygen rise to the surface, creating bubbles which try to escape from the hot glass, almost as if the organic elements of life were escaping to rejoin the earth’s atmosphere.
